About Our Airstream Holidays

Even if you don’t know the name Airstream, you will no doubt be aware of the “silver bullet” trailers popular in the US since the 1950s – and this is an early one, a 1956 Airstream Safari. At 22ft long, the Safari was considered a “mid-sized” trailer in its home market, although in Europe, we’d probably consider it mid-to-large.

When we purchased it, apart from the odd war wound, the exterior was pretty much intact, but the interior had been completely stripped – which suited us perfectly, as we wanted to design what we hoped would be the ‘perfect’ caravan. One that was lovely, shiny and retro on the outside, but modern and with all the creature comforts inside – that just “worked”!

The outside therefore is much as it was when built, but painstakingly polished to a wonderful mirror shine, which always draws attention. Inside, we’ve tried to keep it as ‘open’ as possible, to create a feeling of space, with crisp modern lines, and a few curves to be in keeping with the shape of the trailer. It’s insulated up to the hilt with high-tech ‘Thinsulate’ insulation, which together with the soft-touch rubber flooring on top of the under floor heating, means that it’s warm and cosy whatever the weather.

It is designed to accommodate a couple or a family of up to four people – there is an L-shaped seating area at the back which converts to a double bed, and a further one at the front created by dropping down the dining table.

We normally make up the rear bed for you on arrival, but leave the table in its normal position – couples can therefore benefit from having a permanent sleeping area at the rear whilst still using the dining area at the front; families will however need to lower the table into a bed for themselves at night time.

Duvets, pillows and bed linen are all provided, although we do ask that you bring your own towels.

The galley kitchen runs along one side of the trailer, with a black polished Corian worktop housing a good-sized stainless steel sink, drainer, workspace and a cooker with oven, 3-ring hob and grill. There are plenty of good quality pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, utensils and glasses (which for safety reasons are plastic, but stylish nonetheless). Opposite the kitchen there is a good-sized fridge with freezer compartment.

Lastly there’s the washroom, which truly is the “smallest room”, but sufficient to house a wash basin and toilet for those middle-of-the-night emergencies. (please note though that you are responsible for emptying the toilet – after all, you are ‘camping’ 😉 )

Please note that we cannot accept pets, and smoking is not allowed inside the Airstream.
